Ear Acupuncture is the practice of stimulating specific points in the ear. There are over 400 acupuncture points in the ear. Ear acupuncture is documented as far back as 500 B.C. in Greek and Chinese History.
Weight loss, quit smoking and stress relief are commonly used in ear acupuncture. There are two major kinds of ear acupuncture devices used:
1. Ear Staple: A small and surgical stainless steel suture;
2. Ear Beads: Tiny Chinese herb's seeds with adhesive.
A stainless staple and / or few of the beads are placed into the outer part of the ear to provide the effect of appetite suppression (weight loss), craving control (quit smoking) and relaxation (stress relief).
By inserting staple and/or beads into the acupuncture point of the ear, it releases endorphins which have a calming and relaxing affect that will send a signal to the brain telling your stomach that it is full (weight loss), your craving has lessened (quit smoking), or stress is relieved.

For quit smoking patients, with the combination of ear and regular body acupuncture therapy, 98% become non-smoker or reducing cigarette per day, whereas 2% have no response.
(**For quit smoking patient, 3 - 5 regular body acupuncture treatments are recommend along with ear acupuncture.)

Q: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EAR STAPLE AND BEADS?
A: Ear staple is a small and surgical stainless suture whereas ear bead is the seed from a Chinese plant. The advantage of ear staple is it can stay on the ear as long as you want it. The disadvantage is the chance of getting an ear infection is higher than ear beads. For ear beads, the advantage is it will not get ear infected but the disadvantage is it stays on the ears temporary. It approximately stays 5 to 14 days.
Q: DO I NEED BOTH-STAPLE AND BEADS OR EITHER ONE OF THEM?
A: Everybody's constitution is different than others. Some people will do well with an ear staple but others do well with ear beads. Inserting both an ear staple and beads make the weight loss and quit smoking therapy easier because more acupuncture points are stimulated. With stress relief, only ear beads are used.
